FOCUS believes that if a child has special needs,
then a family has special needs.

This journey comes with many challenges and difficulties……and infinite joys and unconditional love. After a child is diagnosed with a significant developmental or physical disability, parents begin a journey in a new world of medical specialists, frequent hospitalizations, and ongoing therapies. They might worry about managing financially, about giving siblings enough attention, about the future of their child.

FOCUS offers Families:

Comfort – We support our parents – we give them a shoulder to cry on, an ear that understands the acronyms and a visit when a child is hospitalized. We offer specialized childcare so parents can take a break! We want parents to know that they are not alone – there are many others who have ‘been there’ and are available to help!

Hope – We provide parents with information and resources in the community…..and we offer activities so parents meet each other. Often, the best information comes from another parent who has (or has had) the same issue!

Fun – Everyone likes to have fun – but sometimes we forget how! FOCUS organizes regular activities throughout the year for children, teens, and families. These events also provide the opportunity for parents to meet other parents, siblings to meet other siblings! We also offer a variety of summer camp programs for children, teens, and young adults.

Equipment – Medically fragile children often need special medical equipment to participate in activities with their friends and families. This equipment might not be covered by insurance or Medicaid. Parents may apply for a grant from FOCUS to help cover the cost or purchase of this equipment.
